Learning her trade
Ane Kristine was born January 2, 1858. After confirmation at fourteen, she worked as a housemaid and saved to learn butter- and cheese-making. Peter recalled that her training included a year working for board and lodging without wages. She obtained work in Holstein and won recognition for her butter at a fair in England.
Marriage and children
She later worked on the Roest estate for Otto Juhl. After their engagement she spent a year in Munich, where Otto’s brothers were studying medicine. Peter dated their marriage to 1886. Their sons were Theodore and Valentine. She died following an illness described in the family account as typhoid-pneumonia; her sister Ane and her physician brothers-in-law were with her.
